The Passive Voice with Essere & Venire

In passive sentences, the subject of the sentence receives the action rather than performing it. The agent (the one performing the action) is optionally introduced by the preposition da (by).

1. Passive with ESSERE + Past Participle

This is the standard passive form and can be used in all tenses. The past participle must agree in gender and number with the subject.
La porta è chiusa da Marco. (Present)
La lettera è stata scritta da Luigi. (Passato Prossimo)

2. Passive with VENIRE + Past Participle

This alternative is used only in simple tenses (such as Presente, Imperfetto, Futuro) to emphasize the ongoing process or action, rather than a state.
Il museo viene visitato da migliaia di turisti. (The museum is visited by thousands of tourists.)
