Advanced Conjunctions & Subjunctive Triggers

In formal discourse, advanced connectors link complex ideas with precision. A crucial aspect of B2 Italian is knowing which subordinate conjunctions automatically trigger the Congiuntivo.

Conjunctions Requiring Subjunctive

• Purpose (Affinché, perché): Expressing intent (so that / in order that). Ti chiamo affinché tu sappia la verità.
• Concession (Benché, sebbene, nonostante, malgrado): Expressing contrast (although / even though). Sebbene sia tardi, esco.
• Condition (A patto che, purché, a condizione che): Expressing prerequisites (provided that / on condition that). Vengo, purché tu paghi.
• Time / Negation (Prima che, senza che): Fallo prima che sia troppo tardi. (Do it before it's too late.)

Indicative Connectors

Remember that connectors of cause (poiché, dato che, siccome) and some temporal ones (dopo che) require the Indicative.
